Sexually assaulted mother of two children after promising to marry her; accused is a teacher who married three women, say police

THODUPUZHA: A youth who sexually assaulted a woman looking for work as a home nurse by promising her a new job and marriage has been arrested by police. Arakkulam Koovappally native Anil Prabha (36) was nabbed by the Thodupuzha police from the Borrampalem village in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh based on the woman's complaint. The accused was working as an English teacher at a UP school in Borrampalem.

The Scheduled Caste woman, a Kumily native and the mother of two children, lodged the complaint with the DGP on June 4. Following this, the case was handed over to the Thodupuzha police. The accused and his friend had run a private job consultancy firm in Thodupuzha.

The accused used to run campaigns for the firm through social media. The woman contacted the firm after noticing an ad for a home nurse. Following this, Anil called her to Thodupuzha saying that he has a job ready for her. The complainant reached Thodupuzha on May 28, 2022. The accused then sexually assaulted the woman after breaking into the lodge room in which she was staying. Later, he promised to marry her.

Anil told the woman that he was a divorcee and that they can live together after getting married. They lived together till February 15 this year. The accused then cheated her and left for Secunderabad in Telangana. Following this, the woman lodged a complaint against him.

The police, who identified the accused through the information in the complaint, conducted continuous investigations focusing on Andhra Pradesh. Anil's phone was switched off. A police team reached Secunderabad on June 2 to nab the accused. The accused fled to Borrampalem while the police conducted an investigation with the help of the local police and the Malayali Samajam. He then arranged a teaching job in a school in the village.

The Thodupozha police team, which reached Borrampalem, surrounded the house of the accused and nabbed him with the help of the local police. The police found that Anil had been married thrice. The police said that a woman and a child were with Anil when they arrested him.
