Man goes swimming in excitement of Nehru Trophy boat race; drowns

ALLEPPEY: The man who went swimming in the lake in the excitement of the Nehru Trophy boat race, drowned. S Ranjith (24) who is the son of Sasi of Neerozhukal house in Pallikkunnu Pothupara Peerumedu, Idukki is the one who died.

Ranjith went missing while swimming in the backwater near HMC Kurishadi, north of the Punnamada finishing point, around 3:40 pm yesterday. R Madhu and U Sumesh, the scuba team members of the nearby Takazhi Fire Force unit, dived into the water and found Ranjith and took him to the Alappuzha General Hospital after giving him first aid, but his life could not be saved. He was an artist at a martial arts institution called Yoddha in Kumily. Alappuzha South Police took action and shifted the body to the morgue.
