Techie shot dead in Pune hotel; male friend arrested in Mumbai

PUNE: A software engineer was shot dead in a hotel room on Sunday. The dead is Vandana Dwivedi (26) of Lucknow. The incident happened in a hotel near Laxmi Chowk in Hinjewadi, home to the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park in Pune. Police said the victim’s male friend is behind the murder. The woman had been working at Infosys in Hinjewadi Rajiv Gandhi Park near Pune for the past two years.

The incident happened in room 305 of the hotel. The police came to know about the incident at 9 pm. Following the incident, Navi Mumbai Police arrested Rishabh Nigam, a native of Lucknow, with a pistol at Nakabandi. During preliminary interrogation, Nigam revealed to the police that he had committed the murder. In the evening, he was handed over to the crime branch team of Pimpri-Chinchwad police.

Dwivedi and Nigam lived in the same area of Lucknow before coming to Pune for work. After initial investigation, the police said they knew each other since 2014 and were in a close relationship for some time. Recently, Nigam suspected that Dwivedi was ignoring him. The police said the murder was committed after this. The police said the reason for the murder will be clear only after further investigation.
