BENGALURU: The Karnataka Police have rescued a woman who was held under house arrest for 12 years by her husband. The police rescued Suma, the wife of Mysore native Sannalaiah, after receiving confidential information. However, Suma asked the police not to register a case against Sannalaiah. The woman has been shifted to the house of her parents.
The two got married 12 years ago. Suma is the third wife of Sannalaiah. Since the day of their marriage, he had been suspecting her. In the first week of marriage, he had locked her up in a room at their residence. He even forbade her from using the toilet located outside the house. The accused had placed small boxes inside the room for this purpose, and he himself disposed of it. Unable to witness the plight, a relative of the victim informed the police about the incident.
The woman told the media that she was not able to talk to her parents or visit her close relatives. The victim has two children from the accused, who now have been sent to her parents’ house.
“My husband locked me up and did not allow me to talk to my children freely. He would repeatedly slap me for no reason. Everyone is scared of him. He wouldn’t allow my children to be with me until he came home late at night. I had to give them food through the small window,” Suma said.
