Rejected marriage proposal; neighbour storms into house, stabs 20-year-old girl to death

BENGALURU: In a shocking incident, a man stormed into his neighbour's house and stabbed a 20-year-old girl to death for rejecting his marriage proposal. The incident took place in Hubballi in Karnataka this morning. The deceased has been identified as Hubbali Veerapur native Anjali Ambigar. Anjali was sleeping at her house in the morning when a youth named Gireesh Sawanth (21) broke into the house and repeatedly stabbed her. The accused fled the spot immediately after the incident.

Gireesh, an autorickshaw driver, had been harassing the girl for a very long time. He had recently approached the girl's family with the demand to marry her. However, the girl's family objected to the marriage proposal. According to the police, this was the reason behind the attack. Following the incident, the police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Police said that a special team had been formed to nab the accused.

Meanwhile, the girl's family alleged that although they had earlier lodged a complaint against Gireesh with the police, the police did not take the complaint seriously. Anjali, who worked at a canteen, had been living with her sister and grandmother. Her parents died some years ago.
