THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is likely to receive heavy rains from Saturday due to the strengthening of the cyclonic circulation near Rayalaseema in Tamil Nadu and Telangana and the low-pressure area from south Chhattisgarh to Comorin region.
There is a possibility of flash floods, landslides and mountain floods. Heavy rainfall will occur in central and southern districts in a short period of time. It may continue till May 20. Care should be taken when going down waterfalls and rivers. On Friday, Ashwin, 16, a resident of Tirunalveli, Tamil Nadu, died in the flash flood in Courtallam.
The hilly areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta received heavy rain yesterday. There is a possibility of landslides and sudden flooding of rivers.
Fishing has been banned on the Kerala coast till further notice. Coastal residents should be cautious as there is a possibility of rough seas.
