THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fountain pen used by Sree Narayana Guru will be installed at the Sree Narayana Guru Ashram in Washington, North America on the 26th. Former Special Secretary of the Law Department Sheela R Chandran and her son Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Sharma have left for America with the pen.

The pen will be handed over to the Ashram on the 26th as part of the first anniversary celebrations of the Sree Narayana Guru Ashram in North America. The pen was sacredly kept in a special box in the puja room of Ulloor Sreedharma Nilayam. The black parker pen was gifted by Guru Deva to his disciple 'Bhrigu' (V Bhargavan Vaidyar) during his student days. Swami Guruprasad received the pen from Vaidyar's daughter L Nirmala Devi on his thirtieth death anniversary.

Born in Kulathur, Thiruvananthapuram, Bhargavan was taken to Sivagiri by Sree Narayana Guru at the age of eight. Bhargavan was able to learn Sanskrit, Vedanta and philosophy from Guru. Natarajaguru, who was in Sivagiri Math at that time, taught him English as well. Guru Deva gifted the pen to Bhargavan during his continuous travels with Guru Devan. Many prominent people from abroad came to meet the Guru at that time. The great poet Rabindranath Tagore and secretary CF Andrews also visited the Guru during this time. The pen was presented to the Guru by one of them. The pen was kept in the pooja room when Vaidyar died in 1994 at the age of 93. Vaidyar's granddaughter Sheela R Chandran became the custodian of the pen later.
