KANNUR: After an air hostess was arrested for smuggling gold through Kannur airport, a member of Air India Express cabin crew was nabbed by the DRI. The said individual, Suhail (41), a native of Kannur's Thillankeri, has been working as a cabin crew for ten years.
Air hostess Surabhi Khatun (26), a native of Kolkata, was arrested on Wednesday with 960 grams of gold. DRI found that she was assigned by Suhail. Surabhi tried to smuggle gold worth Rs 60 lakh hidden in her rectum. During an interrogation, it became clear that she had smuggled 20 kg of gold many times before. She was nabbed after receiving intel of gold in mixed form being smuggled.
In a subsequent investigation, Surabhi was caught. She has been remanded. The investigation team has come to the conclusion that more people are involved in gold smuggling. Officials say there will be more arrests in the coming days.
