Kanchanjunga Express accident: Bengal Governor Ananda Bose camping at Jalpaiguri

KOLKATA: Bengal Governor Dr CV Anandabose reached the scene of the train collision in New Jalpaiguri in the evening to console the injured and the dependents of the deceased and coordinate the rescue operations. He reached the North Bengal Medical College Hospital and met the injured people undergoing treatment in the accident.

Six of the injured are in critical condition and 41 are undergoing treatment in hospital. After discussing the situation with the team of doctors, Governor Ananda Bose assured that more experts would be provided from other districts of Bengal if needed. The Governor is camping at Jalpaiguri.

So far, 15 deaths have been officially confirmed in the Jalpaiguri train collision accident. The national media is reporting that several people are seriously injured, so the death toll is likely to rise. Although the cause of the accident is not yet clear, the preliminary information is that the goods train missed the signal.

It is reported that a total of 60 people were injured in the accident. Three of the dead, including the loco pilot of the goods train, were railway employees. Most of them died, trapped in the wreckage of the trains. The Kanchenjunga Express, which runs from Silchar in Assam to Sealdah in Kolkata, collided with a goods train on Monday morning after passing Rangapani station.
