WAYANAD: Explosive devices, including a landmine, were found in an area with a Maoist presence in Thalappuzha in Wayanad. The land mine was found near Kodakkad fencing in Makkimala. Explosives, including gelatin sticks, were also found buried in the area. This is an area patrolled by Kerala Thunderbolts. The bomb squad reached the spot and defused the explosives.

Explosives were buried near the forest where there is fencing. The preliminary conclusion is that the landmine was planted by Maoists. It was the forest watchers who found the landmine when they went to the area to inspect the area's fencing. Following this, the police team, including Kerala Thunderbolts, reached the spot and inspected the area. The recovered object is suspected to be an IED.

This is an area where Maoist presence has been confirmed several times in the past. The explosive device was found near the way where the police used to walk while searching for the Maoists.
