High Court rejects PIL on regulating Wayanad disaster donations, imposes Rs 25,000 fine

highcourt

KOCHI: The High Court rejected the PIL seeking to control the collection of money in the wake of Wayanad disaster. The court rejected the petition filed by film actor and Kasaragod lawyer C Shukur with fine. The court also directed the petitioner to pay Rs 25,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

Enquiring what public interest was in the petition, the court asked the petitioner why he doubted the intentions of the people making the donation. C Shukur approached the High Court demanding that the money collection and rehabilitation carried out in the wake of the Wayanad disaster should be under the government's supervision.

Based on the Wayanad disaster, many organizations are collecting funds from various sources to their own accounts. The petition also states that there is no mechanism in place to monitor or supervise the collection and utilization of these funds.
