KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that she does not want the chief minister's post and is ready to resign in the interest of the people. Mamata's announcement is coming at a time when junior doctors are protesting against her. Assuring that no action will be taken against the doctors, Mamata said the government is always ready for talks. Mamata said that her government has been insulted and the common people did not understand that the protests were given a political colour. Mamata was speaking against the strong anti-government propaganda on social media.

Mamata alleged that those who give political colour to the protests do not want justice but her chair. "Keeping in mind the interest of the people, I am ready to step down. The deceased doctor deserves justice. The common man needs better treatment," Mamata said at a press conference after waiting for nearly two hours for a delegation of junior doctors. A team of doctors had reached the secretariat premises for discussions, but when the government did not accede to only one of their demands, the team returned. Instead of 15, 33 people came for the discussion. However, there was a strong directive that no more than 15 people should participate. "Many of the doctors are interested in a discussion but they are being instructed by two or three people from outside," she alleged.
