'We have a great on-screen chemistry, he surpasses Kamal Haasan; acting with favourite actor brought significant changes to my career'

Mohanlal and Meena are one of the most celebrated on-screen pairs in Malayalam cinema. The duo has acted together in several films. Their first collaboration was in the 1997 movie Varnapakittu, directed by IV Sasi. In a recent interview with a television channel, Meena shared some unforgettable experiences about Mohanlal.

“I have acted with many leading heroes in various films. But acting alongside Mohanlal was something different. Everyone in my family admires him. They love watching his movies. It was my dream to act with him, and when I got the opportunity to work with Lal sir in Varnapakittu, I felt incredibly lucky,” Meena said.

“He never behaved like a superstar with me. Back then, I was not fluent in Malayalam, but he always made sure I understood everything. He is a great foodie and enjoys cooking different types of dishes. I have some wonderful memories with him. I was amazed by his acting skills—he truly lived in his characters,” she added.

“While shooting for Varnapakittu, I was left in awe watching his performance. Many people have said that we had great on-screen chemistry. We are good friends. Acting with Lal Sir brought significant changes to my career. He is not just an actor; he is someone who, like Kamal Haasan in Tamil cinema, has proven his skills in every aspect of filmmaking. In fact, sometimes he even surpasses Kamal Haasan,” Meena said.

She further recalled, “The action sequences in Varnapakittu thrilled Malayalam audiences. In reality, there was no stunt master for those scenes—Lal sir himself choreographed and performed them. Mohanlal is truly a multi-talented artist in the film industry.”
