Santhosh K. Nair is an actor who has been active in the film industry for four decades. In a recent interview, he shared some memories of his college days with Mohanlal at MG College.
Santhosh studied B.Sc. Mathematics, while Mohanlal was a Commerce student. "We did our Pre-Degree together. After that, in my eagerness to become an engineer, I joined Chinmaya classes. But after a year, I realized that I can't do it. So, I returned and joined B.Sc. Thus Mohanlal became one year senior to me. We are of the same age, just a difference of four or five months."
"I was the magazine editor there. I used to act like a hero, riding a Bullet bike and creating a buzz. Mohanlal was part of the SFI (Students' Federation of India). Just like today, SFI was the same back then — they had their own influence and activities. But we never had any major clashes between our parties."
"I was with DSU (Democratic Students Union). At that time, NSS (National Service Scheme) had a party called NDP, which was their student wing — not ABVP. ABVP existed even then, but they never contested elections. I joined DSU to contest elections. I was always involved in the activities of Swayamsevak Sangh. I had served as both a shikshak and a mukhya shikshak. But I couldn’t remain as mukhya shikshak for long, as I entered films. In college, I was the party president, though we had just four or five members in the party," he said.
