KANNUR: Peravoor will witness a fight between KPCC President Sunny Joseph and former Health Minister and popular face of the CPM, KK Shailaja. When the two faced each other in 2011, Sunny Joseph emerged victorious by defeating Shailaja by 3440 votes. Now, with Shailaja being assigned the duty to wrest back Peravoor, the contest is tightening with analysts saying that a win can go either way. However, Sunny Joseph is confident of a win, which he made palpable by mocking Shailaja.
“Every election defeat is an opportunity for Shailaja to get an organisational promotion. Shailaja joined the central committee when she lost in Vadakara, and she will become a politburo member after the result in Peravoor. Shailaja would not have accepted the proposal to contest from Peravoor if not for the offer,” said Sunny Joseph.
In a response, Shailaja said that reaching the Politburo was indeed a big deal.
“I started from the branch level to the local, area, district and state levels before reaching the central committee. It was a natural process. I have won and lost in assembly elections. It is not a big deal,” said Shailaja.
