Documents forged for organ donation in state; crime branch seeks explanation from health department

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The crime branch has found that organs were donated in the state after forging documents. The crime branch investigation found that those who donated organs for money obtained certificates of organ donation with the connivance of officials as part of their social commitment. The crime branch has given a letter to the health department seeking details of organ donations that had taken place in the last two years.


The crime branch is examining the 35 organ donations that had taken place in the last two years. The crime branch is mainly probing the background of the donors. Among the donors include goons to accused in ganja cases. With this, the crime branch is suspecting the donors' social barrier certificate. The crime branch has sought the details of these certificates.

Meantime, the crime branch is unable to record the statements of those who have received the organs. The agents find donors for patients undergoing treatment in private hospitals of the state. After giving money to organ donors, documents are forged with their knowledge. The certificate expressing willingness to donate an organ for free to save a life as part of community service is given to the government.
