Wild elephant tramples man to death; two had a narrow escape

PALAKKAD: A man died after attacked by a wild elephant in Malampuzha. The dead is A Chandran (55) of Akamalavaram. Chandran was a retired attendant at the Malampuzha Government Hospital.

Chandran was sleeping under a tamarind tree near his house due to the summer heat. Meanwhile, the elephant attacked him at around 4.30 am today. His two friends who were sleeping with him ran away. People gathered and chased the elephant away. Chandran was later taken to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.


This is an area where elephants regularly stray into the village. Locals have also filed a complaint with the forest department in this regard. Chandran's body is kept at the district hospital.
