Orange alert in six districts, holiday for educational institutions in three districts as heavy rain continues to lash Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains continue in the state. The Meteorological Department said heavy rains would continue tonight and there would be some relief by tomorrow. The cyclonic circulation in the Arabian Sea is currently causing heavy rainfall in Kerala. The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will reach the Tamil Nadu coast by Thursday. Apart from this, the new low pressure formed in the Arabian Sea will enter the coast of Maharashtra. However, experts conclude that these two low pressures are unlikely to have a major impact on Kerala.

Currently, orange alert has been declared in six districts including Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur. Yellow alert has been issued in all other districts of the state. Authorities in the state have advised fishermen not to go to sea.

Educational institutions in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts will remain closed tomorrow due to heavy rains. The holiday applies to all educational institutions, including professional colleges in the districts. At the same time, the Collector has asked the teaching and non-teaching staff of all government salaried institutions in Pathanamthitta district to make their services available as requested by the officers in charge of the District Disaster Management Authority. Schools in Kattakada, Nedumangad and Neyyattinkara taluks of Thiruvananthapuram district will also be closed tomorrow. But there is no change in the general exams.

All the examinations scheduled to be conducted by Kerala University and MG University tomorrow have been postponed and the revised date will be announced later. No change for exams on other days.
