KOLKATA: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan had recently created a controversy by stating that he was ready to step down as Chancellor of state-aided universities. Now, the West Bengal government is contemplating a similar move, sources said.
According to national media, the West Bengal government was considering the removal of Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as Chancellor of all universities in the state. West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu said that the state government was considering a proposal to nominate Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as Chancellor of all universities in the state.
The government is considering such a move as there was no cooperation between the Governor and the government, sources said. "The Governor does not extend any cooperation and unnecessarily holds back files, thus my department is constrained to consider replacing the Governor with the Chief Minister as the Chancellor of different universities," the Education Minister said.
