It has been two years since the Justice Hema Committee, appointed by the state government to study the various issues faced by women in the film industry, submitted its report to the government. Now, actress Parvathy Thiruvothu has come up criticising the government for not taking follow-up action on the report. The actress made the criticism by sharing the Facebook post of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) regarding the issue.
WCC's Facebook post read, 'Two years since Justice Hema Committee Report was submitted! Four years since the promises of safety! A whole history of systemic oppression! Forever awaiting justice!'
The Justice Hema Commission was appointed by the government in 2018 on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Women in Cinema Collective, a women's group in Malayalam cinema, following the attack on an actress in Kochi. It was the first time in the country a committee was appointed to study the issues of women in cinema.
