Cancellation of Raveendran pattayams a ploy to avoid case; land to be legally handed over to encroachers? end to Achuthanandan's Munnar mission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is learnt that the illegal Raveendran pattayams (title deeds) granted in Devikulam KDH were cancelled to avoid cases and to legally issue the land to the encroachers. With this, the Munnar mission set up by IAS officer K Suresh Kumar officer during the VS Achuthanandan government got completely thwarted. Several cases are pending in the High Court against the evictions that took place during and after the term of the Achuthanandan government.

Although former minister and CPM leader came out yesterday against the Revenue Department's order cancelling the title deeds, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan later justified the order. Kodiyeri, who said that the government was not intending to evict anyone in the name of the cancellation of title deeds, added that the concerns raised by the CPM and the CPI will be addressed.

Most of these illegal assigned lands are owned by big shots. Multi-storey buildings were constructed by defying the legal system.
The encroachments that took place during the time of UDF and LDF governments got validated under the guise of the Raveendran title deeds.

The first of the Raveendran title deeds was the 5 cents granted in the name of CPI leader PK Vasudevan Nair. The second one was the 25 cents issued in the name of MM Mani. The offices of AITUC and CITU are functioning here. The Munnar mission team had found six violations in the CPI building. A controversy had erupted when a portion of the building was demolished. Following this, the then CPI secretary Veliyam Bhargavan wrote to the government asking it to cancel the illegal title deed. Thus, the title deed was cancelled.
