Let this war end soon

It has been two days since Russia, one of the world's powerful powerful military powers, has started awar on Ukraine. Ukraine, which has been under attack, is by no means on par with Russia. Ukraine was formerly part of the Soviet Union. Despite becoming an independent sovereign republic, Russia always interferred in Ukraine's decisions. When the doubt that Ukraine might join NATO alliance became prevalent, Russia declared war and did a surprise attack on Ukraine on Thursay morning. This Russian move shocked Ukraine as well as the world. Several military centres and populated areas were damaged by Russian lightning strikes via land, sea and air. Ukraine won't be able to resist Russia's strong military force after a few days. There is no doubt that the war will end as soon as the military goals set out by Russian President Vladimir Putin are fulfilled.

There was a perception that the United States and other NATO powers would come together and help Ukraine if Russia declared a war. But in reality things were not as easy as considered by Western nations. NATO powers were forced to withdraw when Putin warned that direct foreign intervention could lead to a new world war. This attitude helped the world.

Russia cannot accept when Ukraine goes against their interests. Ukraine is Russia's most important neighbor, not only militarily but also economically. Russia will not tolerate anything that interferes with this issue. Doubts remain whether Russia will turn to other former Soviet republics after Ukraine. If Putin wants to bring back the old Soviet union, the results are unpredictable.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on Thurday has requested India to intervene in this issue. India has taken a very conscious stand on this issue without being biased. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Russian President Putin on the phone last night, he requested to end this war and to help in evacuating thousands of Indians who are trapped in Ukraine. There are more than two thousand Malayalee students there. Arrangements have been made to repatriate them to neighboring countries. Oil prices which soared on Thursday, has decreased as it was confirmed that this will not be a world war. Also, a comforting change was visible in the stock market and in gold price. Let us pray that the conflict will end as soon as possible.
