Kaniv 108 ambulances help more than five lakh people in distress; Women drivers will be appointed soon in all districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George said that the state government's free emergency ambulance service 'Kaniv 108' has made 5,02,517 trips in the state so far. Kaniv 108 ambulances and staff have been active in the government's Covid forefront operations since the first wave of the Covid pandemic.

Kaniv 108 ambulances have so far made 3,44,357 trips for Covid in the state. For the first time on International Women's Day, a female pilot was deployed in 108 ambulance. Procedures for recruitment of women ambulance pilots are in progress in all the districts.

Most of the emergency trips were made by Kaniv 108 Ambulances are for emergency treatment of heart disease. 27,908 trips were made for this. The second was for immediate treatment at the hospital for accident injuries. 24,443 trips were made for this. Other Accidents 20,788, Respiratory issues 16,272, abdominal pain 13,582, paralysis 8,683, epilepsy 5,733, poison treatment 5,355, severe fever 3,806, diabetes related 3,812, Nipa and other ailments 79 and for other emergencies 22,583 trips were made by Kaniv ambulances for the past 30 months.

So far, 53 deliveries have taken place under the care of Kaniv 108 ambulance staff. Thiruvananthapuram district had the highest number of trips by 108 ambulances till March 25. 69,974 trips were made in Thiruvananthapuram. The lowest is in Idukki district. Kaniv 108 ambulances made 15,002 trips in Idukki district. The number of trips made by Kaniv 108 ambulances in several districts are Kollam 35,814, Pathanamthitta 24,534, Alappuzha 40,039, Kottayam 32,758, Ernakulam 37,829, Thrissur 38,929, Palakkad 52,404, Malappuram 44,365, Kozhikode 37,037, Wayanad 18,920, Kannur 33,036 and Kasaragod 21,876.
