ALAPPUZHA: Police have registered cases against CPI and Congress activists in connection with the Charumoodu conflict. Four cases were registered on various grounds including assault on police and obstruction of work. In the wake of the conflict, a hartal has been called in the area.

Congress-CPI activists had earlier clashed near the Congress block office in Nooranad, Charumoodu. The CPI activists had stormed into the block office and destroyed it. 12 Congress activists and two policemen were injured in the conflict.

The issues began when CPM activists hoisted a party flag near a shop room, next to the house of Congress block office president Sharafuddin. Following which, Congress activists protested and removed the flag. With this, CPI activists hoisted another flag in the spot, leading to clashes and stone pelting between the two groups.
