THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the new academic year, vowels അം (am), and അഃ (aa) will also be included along with Malayalam alphabet in class one and two textbooks. Both of these letters were excluded from the alphabet since 2012. As the first edition of textbooks have been printed, the alphabet will be published in third edition of class one and in second edition of class two textbooks. As a result now Malayalam alphabet has 51 letters including 15 vowels and the remaining consonants. The current practice for class one students is to learn the alphabets after understanding the concept and then recognizing the sentence. Education Minister V Sivankutty has earlier said that he also wants the alphabet to be included this year.
