THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 16-year-old plus one student committed suicide as she was not able to control the excessive use of mobile phone. She has been identified as Jeeva Mohan of Kallambalam Vettiyara. She was found hanging in her bedroom. She ended her life Saturday afternoon.
A three-page suicide note has been recovered and she has mentioned that she is taking the drastic step due to the addiction of mobile phone. She said that she cannot control the use of the phone. No intimate friends and due to this getting low marks in exams.
Jeeva had secured A Plus in all subjects in tenth class. She has the habit of studying in a closed room. On the day of the incident, when her younger sister went and knocked on the door for having food, she did not open. When the neighbours finally came and smashed the window panes, found her hanging. They immediately broke opened the door and laid her down, but by the time had lost her life. Her father had died earlier. Jeeva's family consists of her mother, younger sister and grandparents.
Meantime, police said a preliminary investigation found that she did not have any online friendships, game addiction or excess use of social media. Police said the cause of death may have been the low marks she got in exams along with mobile addiction and subsequent depression. Her relatives said that she used to watch regularly YouTube videos of Korean bands. Police have registered a case of unnatural death in the incident and are investigating.
