Extortion posing as IT officials, railways official arrested

ALUVA: Moulali Habibul Sheikh (36), a railway employee hailing from Gurudwara Road in Goa, was arrested in connection with the theft of gold and cash from the house of a resident of Aluva by posing as income tax officials. A team led by Aluva CI L Anil Kumar arrested the accused from Vasco da Gama in Goa.

Last Sunday, five people posing as IT officials raided Sanjay's house at Aluva Bank Junction. Three were Malayalees and two were Goans. The team 'checked' and found about 50 sovereigns of gold and Rs 1.5 lakh in the house. The hard disk of the home CCTV was also taken away. After the accident, two persons boarded a bus and three persons boarded an autorickshaw at the Aluva railway station. Then they reached Angamaly by auto and bus and from there went to Thrissur. The group had booked a room in a lodge in Aluva yesterday.


The accused was trying to escape when police chased him and arrested him.
