THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Uma Thomas, who achieved a record win in Thrikkakara, was sworn in as the MLA. She was sworn in at the chamber of Speaker M B Rajesh at 11.30 am Wednesday morning. The swearing-in ceremony was held in the Speaker's Chamber as the assembly session is not going on.
Opposition leader V D Satheesan, former chief minister Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala and many other UDF leaders attended the function. MLAs from Ernakulam were also present. Soon after she was sworn in, she signed the documents. The Speaker and the leaders greeted her with a bouquet and congratulated her.
Uma Thomas is the second woman member of the opposition and Congress’ first female MLA of this assembly. She won from Thrikkakara with 72,767 votes.
Uma Thomas defeated Jo Joseph of the LDF. Her husband late P T Thomas, had got 59,839 votes in 2021. She will attend the assembly session starting on June 27.
