BHUBANESHWAR: BJP choosing Draupadi Murmu as Presidential candidate is benefitting the people of Murmu's village. The village is now getting electricity connection which didn't have it for years. The electrification work have started in Uparbeda, Murmu's ancestral village. Although she does not live here now, her relatives are still here. Murmu had shifted to Rairangpur, a muncipal town 20 kms away from Uparbeda, decades ago.

When journalists arrived in search of ancestral village of Murmu, the confirmed future president of the country, they realized that the villagers still depend on kerosene lamps for light. When it became news, the Odisha government immediately took action. Murmu's nephew Biranchi Narayan Tudu and his family still lives in the Dungursahi hamlet. Tudu's wife said they had requested many people to provide electricity but no one paid any heed.

She said that they have never mentioned this to Murmu though she visits village during festivals. Although the MLA and MP in the area were informed but they did not take the matter seriously. Officials and workers of Tata Power North Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) are currently working on providing power supply.
