Youth hacks wife to death

MANNARKKAD: In a horrific incident, a youth hacked his wife to death following a brawl. The deceased has been identified as Mannarkkad native Deepika (28). Police have arrested her husband Avinash. According to sources, a brawl broke out between the couple after Deepika asked Avinash not to kiss their son without brushing his teeth.

The incident took place at around 9.30 am on Tuesday. The murder took place in front of their only son Ivin. It was the neighbours who discovered Deepika lying in a pool of blood in the house. Her son Ivin was seen crying and hugging her. The locals also saw Avinash standing next to Deepika holding a machete. Although Deepika was rushed to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna, she could not be saved. Deepika sustained serious injuries to her neck, arm and leg. Avinash was handed over to the police by the locals.

Deepika is a native of Coimbatore. The couple, who had been living in Bangalore for years, moved to Mannarkkad two months ago. Avinash's relatives said that he had mental health issues and had been seeking treatment.
