Monkeypox: Health department issues instructions for strict screening at airports and ports

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Health department has issued instructions for strict screening at all airports and seaports as second monkeypox case have been confirmed in the country. The officials were given a new instruction today after evaluating the tests conducted so far. 31-year-old youth, a native of Kannur, who reached the state on July 13 from Dubai, has been confirmed of monkeypox. He is undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College. Earlier, a native of Kollam was also diagnosed with the disease. He is undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

Kannur native reached home via Mangaluru airport. He sought treatment at the hospital due to fever and rashes on his body. The hospital authorities informed that at present his health condition is satisfactory and those who came in contact with him are under surveillance. The patient is being treated in a specially equipped isolation room in the medical college under the direction of the Hospital Superintendent.

He has come in close contact with the taxi driver and family members. All of them are under the surveillance of health workers. However,Health department officials said that no symptoms have been found in anyone under observation.
