Don’t fall into their trap! Free visa, ticket and a package when sent to work in Qatar; If caught, won’t see outside world ever again

VARAPPUZHA: Three people have been arrested in connection with an incident in which a youth, who was promised job in Qatar and taken abroad, got trapped in a drugs case. The accused have been identified as Niyaz (33), a native of Edathala, Aluva, Shemir (25), a native of Iramalloor, Kothamangalam and Ratheesh (26), a native of Kottayam. They were arrested from Kothamangalam by Varappuzha police.

The police have begun a search operation to find the main accused in the gang. The action was taken on the complaint filed by the mother of Varappuzha resident Yashwant, who is in Qatar jail after he was caught with drugs, to district police chief Vivek Kumar. The gang had sent Yashwant to Qatar on July 7, saying that there were many job opportunities in Qatar in connection with the World Cup. He was also told that the visa and ticket were free.

After reaching Dubai and staying there for a day, Yashwant was given a package containing drugs by some people associated with the gang. He was caught with the drugs on July 9, during an immigration check at the Qatar airport. The accused were nabbed amid a special investigation led by the superintendent of police. In a similar incident, another candidate Shamir, a native of Edappally, was also caught in Qatar.

According to the police, the accused are part of a large drug mafia. Their aim is to arrange carriers for a commission of Rs 5,000 – Rs 10,000. Investigation is underway and their phone calls are also being examined. The investigation team comprises of Munambam DySP M K Murali, SHO J S Sajeev Kumar, SIP Suresh, ASIs T K Raju and Renil Varghese, SCPOs S Vijaya Krishnan, P K Shani, CPOs M P Sijith, K Biju Raj, T D Titu and Bibin Surendran.
