Pinarayi married Kamala of Onchiyam in Vadakara on September 2 in 1979. Kamala was a teacher at St Joseph's School in Thalassery. Pinarayi married Kamala when he was serving as Koothuparam MLA and CPM Kannur district secretariat member.
