Vadakkancherry accident: Mary, Thomas lost lone son born after 14 years' wait; Rohit's mother held his jersey close as she bid him adieu

KOCHI: Thomas and Mary are in agony at the loss of their son, who came into this world after 14 years of their marriage. Chris Winterborn Thomas Mulanthuruthy, who died in the horrific bus collision in Vadakkancherry, was a 10th-class student in Baselios Vidyaniketan School in Vettikkal and the son who died in the Vdakkancherry bus accident is the only child of Thomas and Mary couple of Thuruttikkara Kota.

The couple was without a child after their marriage, and Chris was born after a long period of treatment. The unexpected demise came exactly one month before his 15th birthday. Along with his studies, Chris excelled in sports and was very popular with the locals and his friends. When his lifeless body was brought home, everyone broke into tears.

Another victim of the road accident, Rohit, was an employee of a private firm in Coimbatore. He was returning to work after pooja vacations. Rohit was also a great basketball player and golfer.

After the post-mortem at the Palakkad district hospital, when the body was brought home, his family broke down into tears. Seeing the misery of his father Ravi, mother and sister, those who gathered around also cried. Rohit passed away with the desire to become a great sportsman unfulfilled. His mother Lathika could be seen holding her son's jersey close as she bid him adieu.

Rohit was more of a friend than a brother to Lakshmi. Rohit left for Coimbatore after wishing his younger sister Lakshmi good luck in the basketball state selection camp starting at St. Joseph's College in Iringalakuda on October 8.

CPM District Secretary MM Varghese, DCC President Jose Vallur, BJP State Secretary A Nagesh, KP Paul, MS Pradeep Kumar, ML Baby, Anil Pottekattu and hundreds of others paid their last respects. The dead body was cremated at Shantighat in Paramekkavu.
