WASHINGTON: A small plane made an emergency landing on a busy road in Georgia after experiencing engine trouble and crashed into several vehicles. The incident happened at around 12:10 pm on Monday in Gainesville, Georgia. The aircraft had just taken off from Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville when the engine failed. As there was not enough fuel to return to the airport, the pilot decided to land on a nearby busy road.
The plane, identified as a Hawker Beechcraft BE36, struck a vehicle with its right wing immediately after landing. Due to the impact, the plane's fuel tank came loose and was thrown into a nearby car.
Several people were injured in the accident, but none of the injuries are serious. A major tragedy was avoided because of the pilot's quick thinking. Traffic was disrupted for several hours following the crash. Videos of the incident have been widely shared on social media. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the accident.
