ISLAMABAD: Crucial talks aimed at ending the conflict that has shaken West Asia have begun in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The US delegation is being led by Vice President JD Vance, along with Steve Witkoff, a representative of President Donald Trump, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner. Representing Iran are Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir are mediating the talks.

The discussions are scheduled for one day, but reports suggest they may continue tomorrow as well. However, there has been no official confirmation. After around two hours of talks, the delegations broke for lunch and rest. The discussions are being held behind closed doors at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad.

Earlier on Wednesday, the US and Iran had agreed to a 14-day ceasefire. President Donald Trump warned that if the talks fail, the war against Iran would resume. Iran has also stated that it is prepared to face any situation.
