Golden day for India at Asian Games, four gold medals in a single day

NAGOYA: India celebrated a golden day at the Asian Games in Japan on Wednesday, with the national anthem playing four times. India won four gold medals, including a hat-trick in archery and a record-breaking performance in trap shooting.

In archery, India won gold in the men's compound team event through Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Mani Ratnam. Jyothi Surekha, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi won gold in the women's team event. Chikitha and Sahil also teamed up to win gold in the mixed doubles event, completing India's hat-trick of archery golds.

In shooting, the mixed trap team of Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai clinched gold with a Games record. Neeru, who had also won gold in the women's individual event the previous day, secured her second gold medal of the Games.

India also won three bronze medals. Kapil Pokhariya won bronze in the men's 90kg boxing category, while Priya Ghanghas took bronze in the women's 60kg category. Sunil Kumar won bronze in the men's 87kg Greco-Roman wrestling event.

Lovlina Borgohain and the Indian women's hockey team reached their respective finals in boxing and hockey. India's men's and women's squash teams also entered the semifinals, assuring themselves of medals.
