Neeraj Chopra qualifies for Commonwealth Games javelin final; two other Indians also advance

GLASGOW: Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra qualified for the men's javelin throw final at the Commonwealth Games after finishing fifth in the qualifying round. Fellow Indians Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh also secured places in the final. Neeraj reached the final with a throw of 79.61 metres, while Rohit threw 78.37 metres and Yashvir registered 78.36 metres.

No athlete managed to cross the automatic qualification mark of 84 metres due to poor weather conditions. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage topped the qualification round with a throw of 82.84 metres. The men's javelin throw final will be held later tonight.

Meanwhile, Malayali athlete M. Sreeshankar won the silver medal in the men's long jump with a leap of 8.09 metres. Another Malayali athlete, Muhammad Basil, claimed silver in the men's 100m T47 event at the para athletics competition. Fellow Indian Dilip Gavit won the gold medal in the same event.
