ISLAMABAD: Two pilots were killed when a Pakistan Army Aviation training aircraft crashed near Nawan Killi in Quetta, in southwestern Pakistan's Balochistan province, on Monday. The Mushshak training aircraft crashed around midday on October 12, according to the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military attributed the accident to a technical fault but did not provide further details.
The deceased were identified as Major Husnain Shehzad Humayun, an instructor pilot, and Captain Abdul Samad, a student pilot.
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the deaths and extended their condolences to the bereaved families.
The crash follows another fatal military training-flight accident in Pakistan in June. On June 15, a Pakistan Air Force trainer aircraft crashed near Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during a routine training flight, killing Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Qasim Abdullah of the Air Force and Lieutenant Taha Abbasi of the Pakistan Navy. An inquiry board was ordered to determine the cause of that accident.
