Three films, three actresses — and same character name: Curious ‘Chandra’ coincidence

Cinema is full of coincidences, but some are particularly fun to spot. One such coincidence involves three films, three actresses and, interestingly, the same character name — Chandra.

In Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, Kalyani Priyadarshan plays the titular character Chandra. The film went on to become a major box-office success, crossing the ₹300-crore mark and becoming the only Malayalam film to achieve the feat.

Interestingly, Chandra is also the name of Andrea Jeremiah’s character in Vetri Maaran’s acclaimed Tamil film Vada Chennai. Released in 2018, the film featured Andrea alongside Dhanush and became one of the notable films in the actor-director duo's filmography.

Now, the same name has appeared once again in Tamil cinema. Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra in DC, adding another film and another actress to this rather curious coincidence.

Three films, three actresses — but one name.

What makes it interesting is that the films belong to completely different cinematic worlds, with no apparent connection between the characters beyond their shared name. Yet, Chandra has found its way into all three stories, played by three different actresses.

It may simply be a coincidence, but it is certainly the kind of small connection between films that makes movie trivia a little more interesting.
