For Suriya, being a hands-on father apparently means keeping up with school emails, sports competitions, field trips and academics. Actress Jyothika has revealed that her husband takes charge of all school-related responsibilities for their children, Diya and Dev, offering a glimpse into the couple’s family life away from the spotlight.
Speaking to a YouTube channel, Jyothika opened up about their children’s bond with their parents and explained why she considers Suriya a good father.
“Diya is closer to her father, while Dev is equally close to both of us. There are so many reasons why Suriya is a good father. The school sends at least two emails every day, about sports, picnics, studies and various other matters. All the school-related responsibilities are handled by Suriya,” she said.
The couple’s children are studying in Mumbai. Their daughter, Diya, was born in 2007, while their son, Dev, was born in 2010.
While their professional lives keep them busy, Suriya and Jyothika have spoken about the importance of balancing their careers with their responsibilities as parents. In an earlier interview, the couple discussed how they adjust their schedules to ensure that at least one parent is available for their children.
Their approach to family life comes as the actors mark two decades of marriage. Suriya and Jyothika recently renewed their wedding vows in an intimate Christian-style ceremony, sharing a video of the occasion on Instagram.
Jyothika, dressed in a white bridal gown, walked into the ceremony alongside Dev, while Diya stood beside her father. The video offered a glimpse of the family celebrating the milestone together.
In her note accompanying the video, Jyothika described the ceremony as “THE SEQUEL” and called it a celebration of their 20 years of “love and war”. Her message acknowledged the imperfections and disagreements that come with a long relationship, rather than presenting their marriage as a perfect one.
Suriya and Jyothika married on September 11, 2006, after their friendship blossomed into love. The two first met on the sets of the 1999 Tamil film Poovellam Kettuppar and went on to share the screen in several films before tying the knot.
Two decades later, the couple continue to share glimpses of their relationship and family life, with Jyothika’s latest revelation highlighting a side of Suriya that audiences may not often get to see: his role in the everyday details of raising their children.
