Lokesh Kanagaraj's DC, in which he plays the lead role of Devadas, is continuing its successful run at the box office and has crossed the ₹100-crore mark. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film stars Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra, along with Sanjana Krishnamoorthy and Srikrishna Dayal.
The film, which was released in theatres on August 7, also features music and background score by Anirudh Ravichander. His work in the film has been among the aspects to receive appreciation, with recent coverage highlighting the score's role in the film's action and emotional sequences.
Amid the film's box-office success, celebrity trainer Sandeep has shared a video on his social media channel detailing Lokesh's physical preparation for the role.
According to Sandeep, Lokesh underwent 90 intense training sessions over 50 days for his physical transformation for DC. He also trained twice a day, with workouts in the morning and evening.
"Going to the gym in the morning and evening is not an ordinary thing. Working out completely at the gym every day and then being ready with the same energy the next day is very difficult," Sandeep said.
Lokesh's physical preparation was also discussed by director Arun Matheswaran. According to Arun, Lokesh worked extremely hard for the film, while the only instruction he gave him was to remain himself.
DC director said he wanted Lokesh's portrayal of Devadas to be shaped around his natural emotional responses, including when he gets angry and when he feels sad. He added that Lokesh had given his complete effort to the character.
The rigorous training reportedly came with its own challenges, as Lokesh suffered an unexpected shoulder dislocation at one point. Sandeep said the workout routine was modified accordingly while taking the injury into consideration.
DC marks an important milestone in Lokesh's career as an actor, with the film serving as his first lead role as an actor. He had previously appeared on screen in other capacities, making the distinction between his first lead acting role and an acting debut important.
