MGR biopic in the works, Trisha to play Jayalalithaa?

A biographical film on former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and legendary actor M G Ramachandran (MGR) is in the works. Titled Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, the film will feature actor J M Bashir in the lead role as MGR. The makers have approached actress Trisha to play former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the film. However, Trisha is yet to respond to the offer.

The film will portray different phases of MGR's life, including his childhood, acting career and entry into politics. Shooting is expected to begin soon at Ramapuram in Chennai.

J M Bashir said that filming would begin shortly at Ramapuram. He also confirmed that discussions were underway with Trisha for the role of Jayalalithaa. The director and music composer will be announced soon. The film will focus on MGR's journey in cinema and politics.

Interestingly, Trisha had expressed her wish to play Jayalalithaa in a biographical film back in 2017. Responding to a fan's question at the time, she said she would choose Jayalalithaa's role if she got an opportunity to act in a biopic.
