NEW DELHI: Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has emerged as the face of India's first major Gen Z-led protest movement. Angered by Chief Justice Surya Kant's "cockroach" remark, Dipke founded the CJP, transforming the term into the identity of a nationwide student movement.
His campaign quickly gained momentum, with lakhs of Gen Z supporters and young people joining the party online. Tens of thousands of protesters later gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, making the movement one of the largest student-led agitations in recent years.
Dipke previously worked as the social media team leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and his experience is widely seen as a key factor behind the movement's effective organisation and online outreach. He is not currently associated with any mainstream political party.
Despite being diagnosed with typhoid on Saturday, Dipke remained actively involved in the protest and continued to lead the movement.
His parents, Bhagwan Shankar Dipke and Anita Dipke, expressed relief and happiness after the protest ended successfully. They said the movement, which had continued for nearly two-and-a-half months, had achieved its objective. The family has no political background, and his parents had hoped that he would join the civil services.

Dipke is supported by a close-knit team of associates who played key roles in organising the agitation. CJP spokespersons Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka announced the protest programmes and represented the organisation during talks with the Central government.
Sourav Das is an investigative journalist, while Ashutosh Ranka is an engineering graduate from IIT Kanpur. Afrin Nawaz, Ratna Singh and Vaishnavi Gaur also served as spokespersons for the movement. Their coordination and organisational efforts were widely credited with keeping the protest active and sustaining public support.
