NEW DELHI: All India Students’ Association (AISA) activists staged a protest near the Safdarjung flyover in Delhi amid police action linked to the Jantar Mantar protest. The students protested by clapping and raising slogans. The police dragged the protesters along the road and arrested them.
The police action comes amid protests called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Heavy security has been deployed across various parts of Delhi in view of the protests. Police have intensified checks on major roads and at entry points to the city. It was during these restrictions that AISA activists staged their protest near the Safdarjung flyover.
Reports said the police had detained more than 2,000 people so far. Strict restrictions have been imposed across the national capital, with barricades set up at several locations and many roads completely closed to traffic.
Meanwhile, restrictions imposed in connection with the protest have caused difficulties for railway passengers in Delhi. The cancellation of train services at New Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, along with the suspension of mobile internet services in some areas, has left passengers struggling. They have been unable to access train information or make UPI payments through their mobile phones. The restrictions have been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) as part of efforts to control the protests.
