Amma’s life is a shower of compassion, says Amit Shah

AMRITAPURI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s life was a shower of compassion. He was inaugurating the Vishwaseva Day celebrations at Amritapuri as part of Amma’s 73rd birthday celebrations.

Amma holds society together, binding people with the thread of love, Amit Shah said. He added that the service activities undertaken by Amma in different parts of the world, bringing solace to thousands of people, were a matter of pride for India.

Treatment programmes worth Rs 20 crore at Amrita hospitals in Kochi and Faridabad were also launched at the function. The beneficiaries of the programmes received certificates from Amit Shah. A total of 1,000 patients will be provided specialised treatment completely free of cost under the programmes.

The Mata Amritanandamayi Math’s Rs 2-crore financial assistance for relief operations in flood-hit Assam was handed over to Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu. Amit Shah also presented this year’s Amritakeerthi Puraskar to Adv P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.

Mahesh, Abin Varkey and Uma Thomas; Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh; BJP national secretary K. Surendran; P.K. Krishnadas, Shobha Surendran, George Kurian, Padmaja Venugopal and S. Prashanth, among others, attended the function.

Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, vice-chairman of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, welcomed the gathering, while the Math’s general secretary, Purnamritananda Puri, proposed the vote of thanks.
