Yeah science! Kannur schoolboy builds new voting machine; patent filed

KANNUR: Even the Election Commission's efforts proved unconvinving to put an end to vote fraud during elections. But if reports are to be believed, the voting machine invented by Sivanand, a Plus Two student from Kannur, could prove to be the difference.

The voting machine itself identifies the voter. A person's biometric identification document, Aadhaar, voter ID card and other details can be included in this. The person will be identified as soon as he gives his fingerprint.

Sivanand is a Plus Two science student at the K.P.R. Gopalan Memorial Govt Higher Secondary School in Kalliasseri, Kannur. Sivanand came up with the solution after repeatedly hearing news of vote frauds creating a stir in national politics.

Efforts are underway to secure approval from the central government and the Election Commission. The patent is expected to be received next week. Sivanand said that his voting machine can collect up to six lakh votes.

Sivanand has received the Inspire Award from the central government for his invention. He also received a special award at the Disha Expo International Career Conclave.

Sivanand loved science from a young age, and experimenting with new things turned into his favourite pastime. He has many inventions, including the electronic zebra car parking system and the smart attendance system. His mother and teacher, Praseetha, is a constant source of encouragement and support. P.V. The world came to know about his talent when Sivanand designed a smart electronic voting machine and conducted school elections. Sivanand's EVM was used for elections in his own school, Pappinisseri Hidayat English Medium School, and Islahi English Medium. After making many changes to the machine, Sivanand has now made something that he expects will soon reach the Election Commission of India.
