Kicked and caned: Teacher accused of brutal punishment after student mocked him 

KUMILY: A police investigation has been launched following allegations that a seventh-class student was brutally assaulted by a teacher at the Anakkara Government School. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday afternoon.

According to the complaint, the student, who studies in the Tamil-medium section of the school, was disciplined severely by his teacher, Sivakumar, for allegedly mocking him. The boy claimed that he was forced to kneel, kicked, and repeatedly beaten with a cane until the stick broke. The student's mother stated that her son returned home crying in severe pain.

The boy was subsequently taken to the Vandanmedu Government Hospital for medical treatment. After being alerted by the attending doctor, the police arrived at the hospital to record the child's statement. Based on his testimony, the Vandanmedu police have officially initiated an inquiry into the matter. School authorities have also confirmed that an internal investigation will be conducted.

Meanwhile, the accused teacher, Sivakumar, has denied the allegations of brutality, stating that he did not assault the boy as described. According to the teacher, the student was disruptive and running around the classroom. When instructed to sit down and read a book, the boy allegedly mocked him and ran out of the room. Sivakumar maintained that he brought the student back inside and merely struck him twice below the knee to discipline him.

To clarify the sequence of events, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) committee has decided to intervene and collect statements from other students who witnessed the incident in the classroom.
