One vlog from a North Indian content creator making distasteful remarks about the demographic change in Kochi has rattled Kerala. Social media came in phalanx to respond to the vlogger, who raised concerns over the rising muslim population around Fort Kochi and about the Jinnah sculpture he found in a café on the premises.
The issue spiralled out of control to the point that even the chief minister and opposition leader came out to comment on the topic and rebuke the vlogger. A case was even registered against him for spreading hatred about Kerala.
Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan requested the state government to initiate action and not let such religious provocateurs go unpunished after spreading hate against the state.
Amid the discussion, BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar also joined the bandwagon with his response, which is now going viral on social media.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar:
“Malayalees alone will decide the present & future of Keralam. Our food, our culture, our celebrations. Keralam is part of India. Every Malayalee is also an Indian. I agree with CMs sentiment. However, legitimate questions arise about the political culture that's developing in Keralam-
The only reason some people think they can get away with insults and insensitive behaviour (Dont forget this cafe is named after Kashi - the holy Hindu city) is because they get a free pass (encouragement) from Cong/CPM.
Imagine CM Kerala's tweet and response if someone opens a restaurant named after a Muslim holy city and serves pork? He will find himself being an Ex-CM or fleeing for his life, or both.
So my advice to CM Satheesan is this: ensure sensitivity and respect ALL Malayalees equally. Hindus, Christians and Muslims.
Do not encourage anti-India, anti-Hindu insults/discourse/actions/sentiment like Jinnah worship. But selective secularism and selective talk of communal harmony will make you like every other fake politician before you. And we will resist it. Fully. Every time.”
