KOYILANDY: A 59-year-old man died after a jeep, which went out of control, rammed into a group of people who had gathered at a house following the death of a man in Koyilandy on Sunday morning. Another person was injured in the incident. The deceased has been identified as Rajan, 59, of Naderi Thadolithazha. Surendran, 56, a head-load worker from Koyilandy town, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital.
The incident occurred around 7.45 a.m. on Sunday. Rajan and others had reached the house to attend the funeral ceremony following the death of Balakrishnan Nair, 84, of Naderi Kavumvattam. The group was standing and talking on the verandah of the house when the out-of-control jeep crashed into them. Rajan suffered serious injuries after being trapped between the vehicle and the wall of the house. He was immediately taken to the Medical College Hospital but died around noon.
Rajan was the son of the late Kidangiyil Ramunni Nair and Chirutheyikkutty Amma. He was an electrician. He is survived by his wife, Sreeja, and daughters Hima Raja, a student at Vadakara Model Polytechnic, and Hida Raja, a Plus Two student at Koyilandy Government Higher Secondary School. His siblings are Deviyamma and Raghavan Nair.
